Growing Plants in only Water!!!

Growing plants in water rather I should clarify it by saying growing plants in only water. Well you might be thinking that I must be joking how one can grow plants except few in only water without soil..

But my friends its true one can grow plants in only water with the help of a technique called “Hydroponics”.
You might have tried it many a times in your day to day life but were unable to take a note of it. Well you all might have tried to keep your flowers fresh in their vases by putting them in water; you might have surely seen Money plant growing in old glass bottles. Well all of these are nothing but practice of Hydroponics.

Hydroponics is a field of agriculture where plants are grown without the use of soil. The nutrients that the plants normally derive from the soil are simply dissolved into water, and the plant's roots are suspended in it so that the plant can derive the nutrients it needs for growth.

You will be shocked to know that soil has no role to play in the growth of the plants it just act as reservoir of the nutrients. These nutrients then dissolve in water and are sucked up by the plants through a straw like system called roots. This is the reason why water is required for plants growth. If we provide all the nutrients in the water itself then the plants are no more dependent on soil. Hydroponics work on this simple principle.

There are many benefits of such a system like:
·        It uses less water as we can dissolve the nutrients in the same water if required without any harm to the plant.
·        We can provide nutrients as per requirement of the plants.
·        Nutrients are not lost like in normal fields due to water run off during irrigation.
·        It also has an advantage of mobility as these plants can be transported from one place to another easily by moving their containers.
·        It is more resistant to the pests.
·        Its use can reduce the use of harmful fertilizers and pesticides.

Hence it’s one of the most promising techniques of growing plants. But there is one disadvantage also like if the nutrient balance is disturbed for some days then it might spoil the whole plantation.

But altogether it’s a good technique and do have good future prospects.
