Now no more Q's At Toll Booth...

Tired of waiting at toll booths for your turn to come. Well now you don’t have to wait so long for your turn to come. Now after few years whenever you will pass through the toll both you will have to not wait for your turn. While driving the vehicle through the toll booth the toll would be automatically deducted from your account and you will not even know whether you have passed or not.

The whole system is based on the Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) and the GPRS (Global Positioning Radar System). In it each vehicle will be identified by a unique number tag fitted on the windscreen. The RFID will read the tag and deduct the specified toll from the account. The account balance can be verified via SMS or e-mail. The owner of the vehicle will have to recharge their smart card like a pre-paid mobile phone.

Under the system whose technology is used widely in US and Western Europe, drivers would have to pay by making an electronic transaction through a vehicle road communication based on infrared and Global Positioning System.

IT Company Mastek has been commissioned to evolve a toll system. “Money would be deducted automatically from the reader or card similar to a prepaid SIM card mounted on the vehicle as it crosses the transponder fixed on the road,” says Dinesh Maheshwary, Chief Capability Officer of Mastek.

The automatic toll collection system, hopes to encourage people to use other forms of transport like public transport, car pools etc. This will reduce congestion and pollution on roads. It is believed that it will make heavy traffic routes smoother. It will also discourage additional unwanted car trips.

Now before going on a road trip then don’t just check your mobile balance but also your toll smart card balance.
