Interior designer =decorator …. Is it really so…
Today I was talking with a friend (an Interior Designer ) and asked him what she was doing ,she told i am an interior designer I replied a decorator ,that's good. She slammed me and told dare you ever told me a Decorator.
What does the above mean to you? Do you thing that decorators and interiors have the same profession?
Many of us use the terms interior designer and a decorator interchangeably although in reality the two are totally different. Many younger/newer designers will be very offended if you call them a decorator, because of the difference in scope of work and education.
INTERIOR DESIGNER is a profession that requires specific schooling and formal training. The work involved usually includes studying color and fabric, computer-aided design (CAD) training, drawing, space planning, furniture design, architecture and more. On the other hand when comes to a DECORATOR,
they don't need to have formal training or schooling because decorators focus primarily on aesthetics.
Decorators don't generally take part in renovations or structural planning. They come in after that part
is complete and focus on the surface look of the space. There is no such schooling is required as there
are lots of program available. Their profession is not related to create something out of space. Designers are comfortable with spatial planning and can help design and renovate interiors, right from drawing up the initial floor plans to placing the last decorative accent. They don't just enhance the look, they enhance the function of a room. And if we talk about decorators they can help clients decide on a style, choose a color scheme, purchase furniture, and accessorize. They're often brought in to spruce up an existing space that needs to be updated or redone.

Their profession also differs in a way dealing with whom they are working now if we talk about designers, they often work closely with architects and contractors to help achieve the look the client desires, whether that client is designing a residential home, an office, a hotel, or any other interior space but Decorators don't generally work with any contractors or architects since structural work is usually complete before they come on board. They do however sometimes work with furniture makers, upholsterers, and other industry professionals.
Now since you all know what does basically a designer and decorator means so don't use them interchangeably or else after me you will be the next to be slammed by saying an interior designer a decorator.
So better be safe and be careful about these two things.
