Moving India Towards Better Sanitization
As I started my day travelling early
morning for my college I saw a structure made up of fiber and written E-Toilet.
I was like E- Toilet, I had heard about e-books, e-library, e-commerce, e-
shopping now what is this E- Toilet.
I was excited to know about it and I hope
now you would be too. I will tell you about this E- Toilet.
To improve sanitation and seeing the
nature of Indians our government has tried to think out of the box for the
first time and has installed e-toilets in many cities. E-toilets are simply
great for the Indian society who has its about misconceptions about cleaning
and using the toilets.
Like a beverage machine coins is
inserted into the slot and guess what? The doors of the toilet slides open, the
light, the exhaust fan turn on, the platform gets clean.
Features...
It is a programmed device with an automated
door opening, power flushing, automatic closet washing, sterilization, and
automatic platform cleaning mechanism. This all is managed by SMS alerts to
inform the control room about the status of water tank and bio gas plant. This
unit can be managed from a remote location.
Another unique feature of e-toilets is
bio-membrane reactor which is a Nano-technology aided device that instantly
recycles the used water and makes it ready for future use. This makes efficient
water conservation and effective waste decomposition methods.
The human waste is treated by bio
enzymes to non-harmful products without bacteria.
Where Are These Toilets Installed In India?
In total 16 units are installed out
of which 6 are in Greater Noida while the rest are at various places in Kerala.
15 more units in Kozhikode city and 1 in Kochi are under installation. It is
expected that 2000 units in Kerala and 8000 units in other Indian cities will
be installed.
Why it is still not meant for India?
Though this was unique but it was not
a huge success as it was thought to be. One of the major reasons was reluctance
of women to use this new technology and also improper marketing of e- toilets.
People were not informed about how to use the toilets.
A major complaint raised by a user was that
she was stuck in one of the toilets as the doors were jammed.
Another strange thing was the cases of stealing of all the electronic
items like the exhaust fans and wiring at many places.
Scope For Improvement…
These e-toilets can be made
user-friendly by having manual lock along with the auto lock. Instructions
should be printed in all major languages spoken in the vicinity. Special care
must be taken my adding security coding in the devices to eliminate risk of
theft. These devices should be properly advertised to increase and promote its
use.
Hopefully these will be included and will help
it to be a success in India.
